JEANS, AN ITALIAN CREATION

The story of jeans begins in the city of Genoa, in the Liguria region, famous for its cotton, velvet, and damask. In the 1400s, the town of Chieri, in the province of Turin, produced blue fustian (a cotton, linen and/or wool blend) that was exported through the port of Genoa and used to make bags to store sails.
