FAT THURSDAY

Carnival involves a jolly attitude because in the past people were not allowed to celebrate anything during Lent (the 40-day period leading up to Easter). Carnival was their last chance. After that, no meat, no sugar, no music, no dancing, no plays, reason why thespians don’t like the color purple in theatres because priests wear purple during Lent. (more

 

A CARNIVAL STORY - HARLEQUIN'S COSTUME 

Harlequin (Arlecchino) is the most important character of Commedia dell'Arte. He is the acrobatic, lazy servant who has a few priorities in life: eating, sleeping and making out with his girlfriend Columbine. Therefore he is constantly in love, hungry, and tired, yet he can do a flip in a second if his master arrives unannounced. (more)
